Dr Lourens van Zyl

Dr Lourens van Zyl is an Australian and internationally trained cataract, refractive and corneal surgeon. He graduated with Honours from the University of Pretoria, South Africa, and completed his Ophthalmology training in Adelaide, South Australia. Following that, he pursued a further two and a half years of advanced sub-specialty fellowship training in cornea and external eye diseases, advanced cataract and laser eye surgery at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital under world-renowned Refractive and Laser Eye Surgeon Professor Michael Goggin.

Under the guidance of Professor Goggin, Dr Lourens acquired the latest surgical techniques in laser eye surgery, corneal transplantation, and advanced cataract surgery. Following his formal post graduate fellowship training, Dr Lourens completed a 1 year post graduate diploma followed by a 3 – year Master’s degree in Cataract and Laser Eye Surgery through the University of Sydney, Australia. Dr Lourens has a special interest in laser eye surgery, cataract surgery and the management Presbyopia with Presbyond. He also manages a wide range of disorders affecting the cornea including keratoconus, eyelid disorders and glaucoma.

Dr Lourens is regarded as one of the leading laser eye surgeons in the world and is one of less than a 1000 ophthalmologists worldwide who holds a Board Certified Fellowship from the World College of Refractive Surgery and Visual Sciences.
