Luca Gualdi was born in Rome (Italy) on 03/01/1975. He graduated in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Rome (La Sapienza) in 2001 with 110/110 cum laude and in Ophthalmology at the University of Tor Vergata (PTV) in 2006 with 50/50 cum laude. In 2007, he completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the Department of Cataract at the University of São Paulo (USP) in Brazil.

He is currently the Director of the Cataract and Refractive Surgery Unit at D.O.M.A. (Diagnostica Oftalmologica e Chirurgia Ambulatoriale) and a professor in the Refractive Surgery Master at the “La Cattolica – Policlinico Gemelli” University in Rome. He is also a consultant for the Vatican City. He has authored numerous abstracts, papers, courses, chapters, and books.

Dr. Gualdi is an instructor in many courses focused on Refractive and Cataract Surgery, including Presbyopia, Premium and Phakic IOLs, Corneal Cross-Linking, Iontophoresis, Intracorneal Rings, Dry-Eye, Femtosecond Cataract Surgery, Ciliary Muscle Electrostimulation, and Laser Scleral Microporation with Erbium laser.

He has volunteered on humanitarian missions in Tanzania, Ghana, Brazil, India, and Cambodia, treating patients with cataract and glaucoma. Dr. Gualdi received the Waring Medal in New York in 2018, the Star Gold Medal in Mumbai in 2020, was elected fellow of the World College of Refractive Surgery & Visual Sciences in 2023, and won the Forttuna Awards Prize in Dubai in 2024.

He is a regular reviewer/editor for the Journal of Refractive Surgery, International Ophthalmology, and Current Trends in Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. Dr. Gualdi is a member of various ophthalmologic societies, including S.O.I., A.I.C.C.E.R., A.I.M.O., S.O.R., A.A.O., A.S.C.R.S., I.S.R.S., E.S.C.R.S., A.E.C.O.S., and W.C.R.S. & V.S.

He speaks five languages: Italian, English, Portuguese, Spanish, and French.
